Scholarships for High School Students

Scholarships for high school students are available to any student with dedication, pride in his work and a determination to succeed.  Are you excited about your college career, but worried about the substantial tuition costs?  Have you applied for a couple scholarships, but feel that you have little chance of getting those?  If so, you’re not alone.

Many seniors give up after a couple applications, because they just don’t know of all the opportunities out there.  They feel that scholarships are only for the athletes, and the kids that get perfect ACT scores.

But the truth is, there are thousands of scholarships that are given away each year.  Many of them go unclaimed!  It pays to do high quality research and really search every available opportunity that is out there.

But where can you find these opportunities?

Check with your local and state governments.  There are ample opportunities for students to get funding through the government.  The government wants as many people to succeed financially as possible.  So they provide scholarships to people of all backgrounds.  You can go to the federal government’s website, as well as the state website.

Look around at local businesses, organizations and associations.  Sometimes even grocery stores give out scholarships!  Be exhaustive in your research, but understand that the local scholarships are usually the ones that the most people know about, so your chances might be lower at getting one of these.

A third way to find scholarships is to do exhaustive internet research.  Many scholarships are given by many different companies.  You can check the links on our website to weird and unusual scholarships, as there are just all sorts of scholarships for high school students out there.  Always be cautious when using the internet though.  There are scams out there, so while you should investigate any opportunity that catches your eye, don’t ever pay money to send in a scholarship entry, and be wary about giving personal info unless you know that the organization is legit.

How to get awarded a scholarship

Remember, scholarships for high school students are given out every year.  There are hundreds, if not thousands of applicants for some scholarships.  As such, you’ll need to stand out.  Make sure your grades and ACT scores are sufficient to justify a scholarship.  If this means re-taking the ACT, than retake it.

If there are essays to be written, this is where you can score some points.  There are many articles written about how to write good essays, and you need to take notes and use these examples.

Keep track of your achievements in high school, and make sure you highlight anything that makes you different.  It’s all about standing out, so show your individual talents off, and you’ll have a much better chance of getting chosen.

Also, fill out your applications on time!  This might seem trivial, but many applicants lose track of time and don’t fill out their applications on time.  This is just a wasted opportunity.  Make a spreadsheet of all scholarships and all application dates.  Don’t miss a single one.

Scholarships for high school students save these young adults a large amount of money as they are headed into their working careers.  Instead of being shackled with debt, students with scholarships find it much easier to begin their jobs.  As such, do as much study and research as you can, so that you can save yourself money, and get a scholarship.
